Homemade Gingerbread Cookies Recipe

To celebrate National Cookie Day, we wanted to share our favorite homemade gingerbread cookie recipe with all of you. It’s the perfect dessert to kick off this joyous holiday season.


GINGERBREAD COOKIES

Prep Time: 25 to 30 minutes | Cook Time: 9 to 10 minutes


WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

 ¾ cups of butter

¾ cup of brown sugar

2/3 of molasses

1 egg

1 1/2 tsp of pure vanilla extract

3 ¼ cups of all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon of ground ginger

½ teaspoon of nutmeg

1 teaspoon of baking soda

¾ teaspoon of ground cloves

½ teaspoon of kosher salt

 Icing & Sprinkles for decorating


DIRECTIONS

1.    In a large bowl, mix the butter, brown sugar and molasses for 2 minutes (or until it’s light and fluffy). Then add egg and vanilla extract and beat on medium speed until all the ingredients are combined.

2.    In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, spices, cloves and salt until combined. Put your mixer on low and gradually add your flour mixture to your first bowl. Make sure to not overmix the batter.

3.    Divide the dough into two equal portions and cover both in plastic wrap. Chill for 2-3 hours or until the dough is firm.

4.    Before unwrapping your dough, make sure to pre-heat your oven to 350. 

5.     Place the dough on a lightly floured surface, and then roll out your dough. You want to roll it out until it’s between 1/8 to ¼” thick. Use your cookie cutters to cut out the gingerbread men. 

6.    Place the gingerbread men in the oven for 9 to 10 minutes or until the cookies are crisp around the edge. Remove from the oven and let it cool. 

7.    Once your cookies have cooled, use icing and sprinkles to decorate.
